Do Good, Feel Good

"Neuroscience has demonstrated that giving is a powerful pathway for creating more personal joy and improving overall health." according to the article in Psychology Today written by Jessica Schrader published April 24th, 2014.

Neurochemical drivers of happiness, referred to as the Happiness Trifecta: dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin will cause a boost in mood.  These hormones have other wellness benefits as well.  Serotonin is connected to sleep, digestion, memory, learning and appetite.  Dopamine is connected to motivation and arousal.  Oxytocin "the cuddle hormone" lowers blood pressure reduces pain, enhances wound healing, and is anti-inflammatory.  Bonding increases, social fears are reduced and trust and empathy are enhanced. Small repeated boosts of the Happiness Trifecta will produce the most benefit.
